Examining the Word, learning principles of sound interpretation. One Protestant Reformer described the Bible as "the school of the Holy Spirit". It's not just an ancient collection of texts, nor is it a bundle of mysteries left to be deciphered by an elite few. The Word of God is just that - God's kind revelation of himself, our source of comfort and the light with which we see all other things correctly.
The TTS Scripture meetings are all about taking this Word seriously, with prayer and thanksgiving. What do the Scriptures say about a particular subject? How do we handle the Bible responsibly? What are the principles of sound interpretation and exegesis, and how can we learn them together? |
|
These meetings give students the opportunity to take the 'big picture' truths learned in Foundations, and apply them in the light of the Word of God. They provide a space to ask questions, to discuss and dialogue with one another. Sometimes we will study a specific book of the Bible, whilst at other times we will explore a particular topic. Along the way we will reflect on how we might better handle the Scriptures.
[1] Where are Scripture sessions held?As mentioned elsewhere, Theology That Sings enjoys the oversight of three Chester Churches: Freedom Church Chester, City Church, and Matthew Henry Evangelical Church in Blacon. Whereas the Foundations sessions are held at Freedom, City Church and MHEC have very kindly offered to host the Scripture sessions between them. Consult the 'Term' page to see where we're meeting next!

[2] Who can attend Scripture sessions? The Scripture sessions are specially designed to be accessible to all. You don't need to attend the Foundations sessions to come along, and the focus is on helping you understand the Word. Whether you're a long-term TTS fan, or a curious first-timer, the Scripture sessions are for you!
|
[3] How much does it cost to attend?Absolutely nothing - we mean it when we say theology belongs to everyone. You shouldn't have to be wealthy to learn the deep things of God. You are, of course, free to support TTS by offering a donation - but you are just as free to attend, no strings attached.
|
[4] Where can I find notes from Scripture sessions? Some written notes are sometimes provided during each Scripture session, but these are deliberately succinct so as not to prove too distracting. Detailed notes for Scripture sessions (when available) are uploaded to this website in full, and can be downloaded for free. Click here for more.

[5] What does the average Scripture session look like?TTS Scripture sessions tend to be more discursive than the Foundations sessions. Whereas the latter are teaching-heavy, the former rely on open discussion. Some of the sessions are led by Dr. Paylor or Fiona Graham, but we're very keen to encourage the gift of teaching in others. For this reason you will find others leading Scripture sessions as a matter of habit - some for the first time!
